Morogoro Orphanage |
In the early 1900s Morogoro was a leper settlement. Our first children were either infected with leprosy or were the children of lepers.
As modern medicine found a cure for leprosy, and as HIV became more and more dominant, the purpose of the mission changed. Today approximately 160 children ranging from two to eighteen call Morogoro home. The small children attend a kindergarten which is established for them on the compound, and then attend the primary school in the village. After finishing Standard Seven some children go to the secondary schools nearby or to other boarding-schools. Other students have the opportunity to learn carpentry and tailoring in the trade school on the compound.
Sr. Fromunda, has been the director of the Morogoro ministry since 1969.
